universities for students who secured Average GRE Scores,Average GRE Scores For Universities

Average GRE scores for U.S. Universities and graduate school is the most  common search term used by students trying to find universities to apply. I personally have gone through the university selection process and I know how tough is to select graduate school based on GRE test Score.

Average GRE Scores for Universities

It’s very hard to find the Average GRE Exam scores or minimum GRE scores required for admission for each department and college. But, there are certain key terms that can be searched for to find the scores required for admission and also the average gre scores for various departments.

GRE Scores – University List

I have started writing about Average GRE Scores for various universities. Here to name a few

• Average GRE Score – University of Virginia
• University of Florida – Average GRE Scores (All Departments Listed)
• Average GRE and GMAT Scores  University of Texas at Arlington
• Average GRE – University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
• Average GRE Scores – University of Texas at Dallas
• Average GRE Scores – University of Texas at Tyler
• Average GRE and GMAT Scores – University of North Texas

Average GRE Scores or Good GRE Scores

It’s a huge mistake to start searching for schools only based on Graduate Record Exam Scores or GRE Cutoff score. There are so many other factors that are considered along with GRE scores for graduate school admission. But, having said that, I’m sure, students want easy way to find the universities based on their academic profile and GRE score.

I have seen students search for Good GRE scores for admission. that will give an idea, but average gre scores will give an perspective into each college and universities.

Average GRE, GMAT Scores – University of North Texas (UNT)

Now is the time to apply for Fall 2009 and many students are looking for average GRE Scores and minimum GRE Scores required for admission to Universities. I have written earlier about Average GRE Scores for universities and today, I have more details about average GRE and GMAT scores for UNT – University of North Texas.

I wanted to make sure students understand the difference between the average gre scores and minimum GRE scores required for admission. But, for UNT I was able to get mean GRE scores for College of Engineering and College of Arts and Science.

Following data will provide some valuable information when deciding to apply to schools. I’m not big fan of following university rankings to select universities. There are many reason for that, but one reason I can highlight here – universities are not ranked based on GRE scores of students accepted to the program.

Average GRE Scores – University of Texas at Tyler

Continuing the series of posts on Average GRE Scores for Universities, today you can find information about University of Texas at Tyler, also referred to as UT Tyler, is public university located in Tyler, Texas, USA, operating as a regional component campus of the University of Texas System serving the East Texas region. Tyler, Texas is located about 125 miles east of Dallas. So, its about 2.5 hours drive from Dallas Airport. From the data I have seen it can be considered as one of low GRE Score universities.

UT Tyler consists of four professional colleges and one traditional college of arts and sciences, offering over 90 academic degree programs at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels. The University of Texas at Tyler is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university has a student body of over 6,100, a 16:1 student to faculty ratio, and a sprawling, immaculately landscaped, park-like campus.

Average GRE Scores – University of Texas Dallas (UTD)

After I published average gre scores for universities, I received comments and email requesting for average GRE scores for other universities. From the previous articles you can find average GRE scores for University of Texas at Arlington, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

University of Texas at Dallas

University of Texas at Dallas is located at heart of Dallas and its good school considering the quality of education and cost of living. You can say its almost similar to UTA and both UTD and UTA comes under University of Texas system.

Average GRE Score – University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill

UNC is located near RTP and its well know for MBA and Science programs. In fact its one of the top schools for both MBA and Science program. Engineering program is also very good. Students usually get job in Research Triangle Park area near UNC Chapel Hill after graduation.

There are so many IT companies( IBM, Cisco, NetApp, EMC, Microsoft, Lenovo, HP, Qualcomm, ..) in RTP. So, UNC – chapel Hill is one of the few universities where finding job after completing Master’s degree will not be an big issue.

GRE and GMAT Score – University of Texas at Arlington

Couple of days back I wrote aboutAverage GRE Scores for University of Virginia. Few students have requested from the comments to for GRE Scores for other universities.

Today, you can know average GRE score for University of Texas at Arlington. Average GRE score is different from minimum GRE Score required for college admission. For instance, Computer Science department at University of Texas at Arlington, requires minimum GRE of 1100, but that doesn’t mean they will not give admission to students with GRE of 1050.

Average GRE Score – University of Virginia

I have seen so many students trying to find average GRE score accepted by universities, I happen to find this valuable data from University of Virginia website. Following table lists Average GRE Score for various departments. GRE Score average is calculated from students admitted to the program.

Students applying with different scoring systems, looks like University of Virginia have some formula to convert academic CGPA or Percentage to GPA. I have writtenGPA Converter guide to give an in depth analysis of GPA Conversion process. Enjoy the following GRE Score tables and I plan to write similar articles for other Universities.

University Of Florida – Average GRE Scores

In this edition ofAverage GRE Scores for Universities (Part 1) andAverage GRE Scores(Part 1), you can find the Average GRE Score for University of Florida to of students with admission in Graduate School. The University of Florida was founded in 1853, and has been recognized as a “Public Ivy” UF is currently ranked 49th overall among national universities in the 2009 U.S. News & World Report rankings.

Getting Graduate School admission in UF is tough, but I have seen few of my friends who got admission and decided to attend low profile schools, since tuition fees was expensive. But, if you have college admission from UF go for it.

The University of Florida is the flagship university of the State University System of Florida and one of the largest universities in the United States, with 51,913 students as of fall 2007. Researchers at the University of Florida developed the famous sports drink Gatorade.

How Graduate School Application is reviewed or submitted

In the last post i was talking about Low GRE score options and your chances of admission if your score is less then 1100. Today, I was planning to writing about 2 different topics

• Job in India or Masters in U.S.
• What would I be doing If I didn’t come to U.S.

But, just before I started writing, I thought, why not write about the application process breakdown, after the Graduate School application packet is submitted. From my experience, in observing the admission process, its almost similar is all the schools. Atleast the flow of application package from the time you submitted Graduate School or Undergraduate School application. Let me see if I can finish this within this post or have to break it down into 2 or more.

Do I Have to Pay Whole Fees if I Get Low GRE Score

Not everyone gets to score more than 1300 or 1400 in GRE. Many students get less than 1000 in GRE Score.  Low GRE Scores Universities had few schools that accept students with score less than 1000. But, one reader had a question about the tuition fee for getting low GRE Scores.

I’m taking GRE Exam next month. If I get low GRE Score, Do I have to pay the whole fees? Will I get Scholarship for GRE Score less than 1000. In practice test, I cannot get more than 1000. I took ETS Powerprep and Kaplan.

GRE Powerprep and Actual Test Score

Usually the score you get in Power Prep is similar to what you can expect o score in actual GRE Exam. If you take 3 tests in power prep, you can take average of those score and expect to get the same score. It will be better if you can take PowerPrep exam when you are just starting to study for GRE. That will give an idea of where you stand. Based on that, you can plan your preparation. You cannot just spend 1 or 2 hours per day without good plan and get to score 1300 or 1400. Time, effort and willingness to go through the pain of spending long hours is required. You could have seen students with score 1300 or 1440. But, what you will not see is the effort that had put to get that score.

Low GRE Scores

Score less than 1000 for Engineering Major is considered Low GRE Score. There are universities that will give admission without GRE Score. But, chances of getting admission with Aid is almost close to impossible. Then many students come to US with high hopes of getting scholarship or aid. But, there are times when you can find only part time jobs and you will end up paying out of state tuition fees for whole 2 years.

Low GRE test score doesn’t mean you cannot get aid. If you have good potential and impress your professor, then you can get some form of Aid after 1 or 2 semesters.

So, answer to your question – Yes, you might end up paying whole tuition fee (out of state) on your own if you don’t put in effort to get aid after coming to US.

some important Low GRE Score Universities List

Last few articles have been about H1B Visa. So, I decided to list few universities that accepts Low GRE Scores. I will try to list universities based on different departments, but that will be evolving process. In meantime, I’m listing universities as I come across.

University for students scoring Low GRE Score <1000 ( v350, q600)

I was browsing universities for Masters program Construction Management, but I happened to find a decent school for Computer Science, Software Engineering, Quality Assurance, Electrical, Telecommunications engineering and Construction Management. If you have GRE score less than 1000 and looking for decent university to study, then Southern Polytechnic State University will be one of the good choice.

Computer Science Requirements:

• GRE : 350V + 600Q with higher scores considered to compensate for a lower GPA;
• GMAT has ALREADY been taken recently, official GMAT scores may be considered.
• Alternative for low GRE Score: A student holding a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school who does not meet the criteria for Basic or Advanced categories may be admitted upon convincing the faculty of the School of CSE of extraordinary alternative qualifications (e.g., lengthy and distinguished employment in the computer field) that would predict the likelihood of success in completing the MS program.
• TOEFL score of 213 or more.

Electrical Engineering Requirements:

• Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in Electrical, Computer, or Telecommunications Engineering Technology or Electrical, Computer, or Telecommunications Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Applicants must have at least a 2.70 (on the 4.00 scale) undergraduate grade point average.
• Applicants must score a minimum of 500 on either the quantitative or analytic components of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

what is GRE Score Reporting

GRE Scores have to be reported for universities to consider the application for Graduate School Admission. GRE Scores can be reported to 4 universities for free at end of GRE Exam, if you decide to accept the scores. I have written in previous post about reporting GRE Scores to 4 universities. But, many students find it hard to forward GRE Scores to additional universities. You can spend $12 more and get fasterGRE Score Reporting.

Use the universities list to find schools to apply or find schools based on average GRE Scores.

GRE Score Reporting

ETS has very good guide that will help you to report GRE Scores with less effort, but if you don’t have an international credit card, then its difficult to send GRE Score report to universities and colleges. It costs $20 for each additional school to forward GRE Scores. GRE Exam fees include the Score reporting to 4 schools. So, best way to save $80 is to make use of that GRE Score reporting at end of GRE Exam. [ How to Register for GRE Exam ]

GRE General Test Scores Reporting Options

There are different ways to report GRE Scores to Universities. Time it takes for the universities to receive the score depend on Computer Based or Paper based tests.
