As if Google didn't have its tendrils into nearly everything, now the company is said to be announcing a music service next Wednesday, October 28. As the rumor goes, Google's negotiating with the big four music labels, procuring rights for songs and music videos, and might incorporate them into a music search function for both streaming and downloads that goes far beyond the company's current music search function.
Google's allegedly partnering up with social music services Lala and iLike (welcome to the social, indeed), and both will be integrated into Google search. That search will also be able to reveal further information about the song you're looking for, incorporating YouTube and the entire Internet.
This is going to be big. It means the quickly spreading Android operating system could have its own version of music shopping that's more powerful than the iTunes Music Store. There's no definitive word about what the service will be called — names like OneBox, Google Music and Google Audio are swirling around — but Google's not commenting on any of this yet.
