Biotechnology and bio-industry are becoming an integral part of the knowledge-based economy, because they are closely associated with the progress in life sciences, applied sciences and technologies linked to them. A new model of economic activity is being ushered – bio-economy – whereby new types of enterprises are created and old industries are revitalized. Biotechnology has potential to contribute to increasing agricultural, food and feed production, improving human and animal health, abating pollution and protecting the environment and as the means to tackle major health challenges in the poor countries, such as infectious diseases, malaria, cancer and AIDS. New and more effective vaccines, drugs and diagnostic tools, as well as more food and feed of high nutritional value will be needed to meet the expanding needs of the world's populations. The biotechnology sector in India is among the fastest growing business sectors. At present, India has more than 200 corporate involved in the biotechnology business and the biotechnology industry ranks third behind Australia and China in the Asia Pacific region in terms of annual net revenues. The main objective of the conference is to discuss the progress, achievements and future prospects of biotechnology Visa Vis to the above discussed potential. The conference will serve as a platform to bring together students, academicians, researchers and industrialist and share their innovative ideas and experience in biotechnology field.
