JNTU’s new proposed grading system

Grading system is the best way of representing the performance characteristics of a student on a scale of 10 points in academic aspects. This method is adopted by many institutions around the world instead of percentage which gives the absolute performance of a student.

Total marks secured by the candidate in each course will be converted into grades with grade point as follows:

Semester Grade Point Average, SGPA (for the semester)

Cumulative Grade Pont Average, CGPA (up to the concerned semester from First Semester)

CGPA >= 8 First Class with Distinction
>= 6.5 but less than 8 , First Class
>= 5 but less than 6.5, Second class

For Example:
A person obtained following results in preceding two semesters
Semester: I

Therefore his/her SGPA will be calculated as follows

SGPA1= 7.73

Semester: II

Now we can calculate his CGPA for the above two semesters

If He/she failed in a course in semester 2, they can either repeat the course in upcoming semesters/summer term or give a makeup exam during holidays based on interest of institution he/she is in.

Please note that "6.995 is not equal to 7":
When any recruitment company specifies CGPA as 7 eligible for campus interview, he/she with CGPA 6.995/6.999 cannot attend that particular placement. So it is noticeable that even 0.001 point makes lots of difference.
