Impact of Recession can be seen in numbers of students applying and attending MBA program. There is an interesting article in Financial Times that discusses about this trend and reasons behind the influx of domestic application, NOT International Students.

Business School Enrollments – 2009

MBA students enrollment numbers in 2009 compared to 2008.
  • Chicago Booth – 577 to 592
  • Harvard – 900 to 937
  • Stanford – 370 to 384
  • Ross – 434 to 500
  • Insead  – 900 to 980

International Students Applications Decrease

Other notable things to observe
  • Economic downturn is a good opportunity to invest in education at a time when large pay rises are unlikely
  • The first is the drop in the number of international students applying to US business schools.
  • They are worried that they will be unable to get the required loans on matriculation – or employment on graduation.
  • Surprise this year is an increase in women students. At Wharton the figure is 40 per cent (up from 36 per cent)
