WHAT IS A VISA?

A visa is a grant of permission to enter any foreign country. International students planning to study abroad will have to apply for a student visa after they are admitted to college or university abroad. Please remember that your acceptance in an institution does not guarantee that you will be issued a student visa. Procedures and requirements for applying to a student visa vary from country to country, and inevitably they are more complex and demanding in some countries than others. Here you will fine all the valuable and detailed information on the application procedures for your country.

The entrance requirements to any country are as follows:
  • You must be healthy. No inoculations are required to enter the foreign country, unless you were recently in a country with epidemics such as cholera and yellow fever. HIV-positive people are not allowed to enter the foreign country.
  • You must be law-abiding. Criminal behavior is grounds for deportation.
  • You must be able to support yourself financially during your stay.
  • You intend to leave the country after you complete your studies

There are several things you can do to increase your chances of a favorable visa decision:
  • Start the process at least two months in advance of your departure date.
  • Assemble all the documentation that can help make your case.
  • Make sure you are well prepared if you are required to attend an interview.

Every country has various types of visa, for example USA has F1, J1 and M1 and Australia has seven types, you can choose from depending on your circumstances.

If the foreign student advisor believes you have the resources necessary for study in the US/UK/AUS, he or she will send you a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant [F-1] Student Status in US)/offer letter (UK, ASU, CANADA etc) . You will need to submit this form with your application for a student visa to the respective embassy or consulate.

  • You will also have to provideproof of proficiency in English (unless you are enrolling in a language program).
  • You will also need Non-Immigrant Visa form available from consular offices,
  • a valid passport,
  • a 1-1/2 inch square photograph (37 mm x 37 mm) showing full face against a light background, and
  • the visa processing fee.
